Israeli military strikes near Syria’s presidential palace after warning over sectarian attacks

Israel launched airstrikes near Syria’s presidential palace early Friday, warning against Syrian military moves toward Druze villages in the south.

The strikes followed deadly clashes near Damascus between pro-government forces and Druze fighters.

Later Friday, intense Israeli airstrikes hit several areas of Damascus and central Syria. Syria condemned the attacks as a violation of its sovereignty.

The strikes came amid criticism from the Druze spiritual leader, who accused the Syrian government of targeting the minority group, the Associated Press has reported.

Druze leaders reaffirmed their unity with Syria and called for stronger state control in southern regions.
