A New Orleans police officer was seriously injured Thursday after being dragged by a vehicle while aiding a possible overdose victim in a Walmart parking lot.

As the officer administered Narcan, the suspect drove off with her still attached.

She fired her weapon, hitting the suspect, and was thrown under another vehicle.

The suspect later crashed and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A female bystander was also injured but is in stable condition, ABC News has reported.

The officer, also in stable condition, is under investigation per standard protocol.
