American tourist climbs over fence at Colosseum, impales himself on spike

A 47-year-old American tourist was severely injured after attempting to climb over a fence near the Colosseum in Rome on Friday.

The man fell and was impaled by the sharp metal bars, causing him to scream in pain and lose consciousness.

Emergency responders took 20 minutes to detach him and stabilize his injury, which was in his lower back.

He was then rushed to a hospital for emergency surgery, receiving 80 stitches.
