The body of 10-year-old Devah Woods was found Tuesday morning after she was swept away by floodwaters in Brenham, Texas.

She disappeared Monday near Fireman’s Park as heavy storms hit the region.

Despite rescue efforts, including by a police officer who was also swept away but survived, Woods could not be saved.

Over 16 agencies joined the search. Her school is offering counseling, and authorities continue to investigate the incident, The Weather Channel has reported.

More severe weather is expected across eastern Texas and surrounding areas.
