Town official allegedly shoots lost DoorDash driver looking for directions

A New York town official, John Reilly III, has been arrested for allegedly shooting a lost DoorDash driver who was asking for directions in Chester, about 50 miles north of Manhattan.

Police say Reilly told the driver to leave his property and then fired multiple shots as the driver tried to leave, hitting him in the back.

The victim, 24, is hospitalized in stable condition.

Reilly, the town’s highway superintendent and a licensed firearms dealer, faces multiple charges including first-degree assault, ABC News has reported.

Local officials and DoorDash expressed concern and support for the victim, and the investigation is ongoing.
