A Florida woman, 61-year-old Cynthia Diekema, was killed after a startled alligator tipped over the canoe she and her husband were paddling on Lake Kissimmee.
The couple accidentally drifted over the alligator in shallow water, triggering the fatal encounter.
A trapper later captured an 11-foot alligator suspected in the attack.
Officials noted that while fatal alligator attacks are rare, they are more likely during spring mating season, The Guardian has reported.
The incident occurred just days after a fatal black bear attack elsewhere in Florida, prompting ongoing investigations and discussions about a possible bear hunt.
