India and Pakistan are facing their worst military confrontation since 2019 after India launched missile strikes on Pakistani territory, killing 31 people, including women and children.
India said the strikes targeted terrorist camps linked to last month’s massacre of 26 Indian tourists in Kashmir, while Pakistan called the attack an act of war and claimed it shot down five Indian jets.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif vowed revenge, sparking fears of a broader conflict between the nuclear-armed neighbors.
The strikes hit mosques and areas previously associated with banned militant groups, the Associated Press has reported.
Global leaders, including the U.S., U.N., and China, urged restraint as border skirmishes continued.
