Missouri lawmakers have passed a bill that would make gold and silver legal tender in the state, allowing them to be used—electronically—for paying taxes and public debts.
While private businesses wouldn’t be required to accept precious metals, they could choose to.
The bill, part of a broader financial package, now heads to Republican Gov. Mike Kehoe, who has yet to indicate if he’ll sign it, the Kansas City Star has reported.
Critics say the plan is confusing and difficult to implement, though supporters argue it promotes economic freedom.
