Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested for trespassing at the ICE detention center Delaney Hall in New Jersey during an attempted visit with Democratic Congress members, who said they were conducting federal oversight.

Despite warnings from Homeland Security officials, Baraka refused to leave and was taken into custody. His team said he remains detained at a nearby CBP office.

The visit was to inspect conditions at the controversial facility, which lawmakers claim was reopened without proper permits, defying local ordinances, The Guardian has reported.
