Ex-police chief convicted of murder on the run after Arkansas prison escape, authorities say

A manhunt is underway in Arkansas for Grant Hardin, a 56-year-old former police chief convicted of murder and rape, who escaped from the North Central Unit in Calico Rock on Sunday.

Authorities say he escaped through a controlled gateway in an Arkansas Department of Corrections uniform around 3 p.m.

Hardin, who was Gateway’s police chief for about four months in 2016, is serving 30 years for the 2017 murder of James Appleton and 50 years for a 1997 rape, Fox 13 Memphis has reported.

Hardin is considered extremely dangerous and should not be approached.

Anyone with information should call 911 immediately.
