Boat explodes at Fort Lauderdale sandbar, injuring nine adults and two children

Nearly a dozen people, including two children, were hospitalized after a boat explosion and fire in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Memorial Day evening.

The explosion occurred near the New River Triangle around 5:45 p.m. and tossed passengers into the water.

Eleven people were hospitalized, with several suffering severe burns and transferred to a burn unit.

Witnesses reported a gas leak may have triggered the explosion, and good Samaritans helped rescue victims.

The U.S. Coast Guard, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, and other agencies are investigating the cause, NBC 6 Miami has reported.

A dog aboard the boat was rescued and unharmed.
