A South African court sentenced Racquel “Kelly” Smith to life in prison for kidnapping and selling her 6-year-old daughter, Joshlin Smith, to a traditional healer.

Prosecutors alleged the girl was targeted for her green eyes and fair complexion.

Smith’s boyfriend and a friend were also sentenced to life for human trafficking, plus 10 years for kidnapping.

The judge said none of the accused showed remorse and ordered their names added to the child protection register, DW has reported.

The case sparked national outrage, with Joshlin’s disappearance in 2023 initially drawing widespread sympathy.
