US Education Department threatens Columbia University’s accreditation

The Trump administration has escalated its conflict with Columbia University, accusing the school of failing to protect Jewish students and declaring it may no longer meet accreditation standards.

The U.S. Department of Education notified the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, citing Columbia’s alleged violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act after the October 7 Hamas attack.

Losing accreditation could threaten federal funding and student aid.

Columbia responded that it is addressing the concerns and is committed to combating antisemitism, CNN has reported.

This move is part of a broader federal crackdown on universities accused of tolerating antisemitism.
