Mark Green announces retirement from Congress before end of term

Rep. Mark Green (R-TN), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, announced Monday he will resign from Congress after an upcoming vote on President Trump’s major legislative package.

Green, who has served since 2019, said he’s leaving for a private sector opportunity he couldn’t pass up.

A longtime Trump ally, Green cited his work on border security and tax cuts as key achievements.

He had planned to retire earlier but stayed to support Trump’s agenda, Fox News has reported.

A special election will be held to fill his seat, which is expected to remain Republican.
