Kallar Lodge, a council-run care home in east London, is using technology like robot pets and Amazon Alexas to support its 43 dementia residents.
As part of a new care tech initiative launched in 2023 with provider Alcove, the home has introduced robotic dogs and cats that reduce distress and encourage interaction, even among non-verbal residents.
Digital translators have also helped non-English speakers communicate better, boosting social interaction and self-esteem, the BBC has reported.
Staff say these tools are improving residents’ emotional well-being and reducing social isolation.
