Senators return the impeachment case against Sara Duterte to the Philippine House

Philippine senators formed an impeachment court for Vice President Sara Duterte’s corruption and criminal allegations but voted to send the complaints back to the House of Representatives over legal issues, delaying her trial.

The decision sparked protests and criticism from senators demanding an immediate trial.

Duterte was impeached in February on charges including assassination plotting and corruption, deepening political tensions with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Duterte’s supporters claim the impeachment is politically motivated to block her 2028 presidential bid, the Associated Press has reported.

She is the daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, who faces crimes against humanity charges at the International Criminal Court.
