Democratic governors JB Pritzker (IL), Tim Walz (MN), and Kathy Hochul (NY) defended their states’ immigration policies during a Republican-led House Oversight Committee hearing, amid nationwide tensions over immigration enforcement.
The governors criticized President Trump’s deployment of U.S. troops to Los Angeles in response to protests, calling it federal overreach.
Republicans accused the states of enabling crime through sanctuary policies, but the governors argued immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility, ABC News has reported.
They emphasized the need for coordination and compassionate policies, while rejecting claims that their states obstruct law enforcement or harbor violent criminals.
