Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced the deployment of over 5,000 National Guard troops and 2,000 state police to support local law enforcement during protests against President Trump and federal immigration raids.
While protests in cities like San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas have been mostly peaceful, some earlier demonstrations saw clashes with police.
Abbott emphasized that violence and property damage will not be tolerated.
The move highlights a stark contrast with California’s approach and continues Abbott’s aggressive use of the National Guard for immigration enforcement under Operation Lone Star, the Associated Press has reported.
Local mayors say they did not request the military presence.
