Air India plane crash death toll rises to 270

A London-bound Air India flight crashed into a residential area in Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff on Thursday, killing 241 of the 242 people on board and causing additional casualties on the ground.

Doctors have confirmed the recovery of 270 bodies, and DNA identification efforts are ongoing.

Vigils have been held across India and the UK, while India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, assisted by US and UK teams, is investigating the crash, the BBC has reported.

A black box has been recovered, and India’s aviation regulator has ordered safety checks on Air India’s Boeing 787 fleet as a precaution.
