5 shot, 3 fatally at “WestFest” carnival in Salt Lake City suburb

Five people were shot at an annual carnival near Salt Lake City, with three—including an 8-month-old infant—killed.

The shooting began after a verbal altercation between two groups, when a 16-year-old male pulled out a gun and opened fire.

Two others, a 17-year-old female and 15-year-old male, were injured, while a pregnant woman was hurt fleeing the scene, CBS News has reported.

The teen suspect is in custody, and authorities expressed heartbreak over the tragedy at a community event meant for celebration.
