At least two dead after bridge collapses in India tourist destination

At least two people were killed and 32 injured after an iron bridge collapsed over a river on Sunday in Kundamala, a tourist area in Maharashtra’s Pune district.

Heavy rains had swollen the river, and many tourists were on the bridge when it gave way.

Six people remain in critical condition, and rescue efforts are ongoing as some were swept away, ABC News has reported.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about infrastructure safety in India, recalling a deadly 2022 bridge collapse in Gujarat that killed 132 people.
