NYC mayoral candidate Brad Lander handcuffed by ICE

New York City Comptroller and mayoral candidate Brad Lander was arrested by ICE agents Tuesday at the city’s main immigration court and released after four hours.

Video shows Lander asking for a judicial warrant before being handcuffed; DHS claims he was detained for assaulting and impeding federal officers, though no charges had been filed as of Tuesday evening.

His arrest sparked outrage from officials, with Gov. Kathy Hochul denouncing it and Attorney General Letitia James calling it as a “shocking abuse of power,” CNBC has reported.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions over federal enforcement actions involving public officials.
