Truck carrying tank after Army’s birthday parade kills pedestrian in DC

A woman was struck and killed by a truck hauling an Army M1 Abrams tank in Washington, D.C., two days after the tank participated in a military parade for the Army’s 250th birthday.

The incident occurred on June 16 as the vehicle convoy was returning the tank to a railyard in Maryland.

Police and emergency responders pronounced the woman dead at the scene, and an initial investigation found no criminal intent or negligence by the civilian truck driver, USA Today has reported.

No military personnel were involved, and the Army referred further questions to local authorities.
