A recent YouGov poll shows that over a third of Americans who don’t support President Trump believe the U.S. is already a dictatorship.

Among Democrats, 35% agree with this view, and 30% of Independents share the belief, while only 7% of Trump voters do.

This perception has grown since early 2025, with critics like California Gov. Gavin Newsom comparing Trump’s actions and events like a military parade to those of authoritarian regimes, Mediaite has reported.

The data reflects rising concerns about Trump’s leadership style among his Democratic opponents.
