The U.S. launched airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites early Sunday, joining Israel’s war against Iran’s nuclear program in a high-risk move that could escalate into a wider regional conflict.

President Trump claimed the sites were “completely obliterated” and warned of further attacks if Iran retaliates.

Iran condemned the strikes, vowed to respond, and called for a U.N. Security Council meeting.

The attack involved U.S. stealth bombers and bunker-buster bombs targeting Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan, marking the first combat use of the GBU-57 bomb.

Though Trump previously opposed foreign military entanglements, he sided with Israel after its strikes had already weakened Iran’s defenses.

The U.N. and global leaders expressed alarm over the potential for a broader war, the Associated Press has reported.

Iran maintains its nuclear program is peaceful, but Trump and Israeli officials argue it poses an imminent threat.
