Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) is holding off on scheduling a vote on his war powers resolution until after a classified briefing Tuesday on President Trump’s recent strikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities.
The resolution, which could come to a vote as early as Wednesday, would let Democrats formally challenge Trump’s actions—putting pro-Israel Democrats in a tough spot between supporting their base or long-held policy views.
Critics, including some Republicans, argue Trump bypassed Congress and violated constitutional norms, Axios has reported.
The strikes, followed by a surprise Iran-Israel ceasefire, were conducted without briefing top Democratic lawmakers, further escalating tensions.
