Trump heads to the NATO summit on the heels of a possible Israel-Iran ceasefire

President Donald Trump’s return to the NATO summit is overshadowed by his surprise strikes on Iranian nuclear sites and an abrupt announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

Though Trump aims to highlight a new NATO pledge for increased defense spending — pushing allies toward a 5% GDP target — tensions over his unpredictable stance on NATO persist.

European leaders remain wary of U.S. commitment, especially after past threats to abandon Article 5 and comments encouraging Russia to target under-spending members, the Associated Press has reported.

Meanwhile, Trump’s looming trade deadline with the EU and threats of massive tariffs add further strain to transatlantic relations.
