Phoenix police rescued a baby last month who had been left alone for days after the child’s mother died in their apartment, officials said Friday.
On May 14, officers responded to a neighbor’s call asking for a welfare check on the woman, who had recently given birth but hadn’t been seen or heard from for several days.
Bodycam footage shows officers spotting the woman’s body through an unlocked window before forcing the door open. Inside, they found the baby on a bed, visibly emaciated.
The infant was placed in a stroller and taken by Phoenix Fire Department personnel to a hospital for lifesaving care.
Police said the child is expected to make a full recovery, CBS News has reported.
The mother’s identity has not been released, and the Maricopa County medical examiner is investigating the cause of her death.
