Families and immigrant detainees allege ‘horrible’ conditions at ‘Alligator Alcatraz’

Immigrant detainees in Florida’s Everglades detention facility, nicknamed “Alligator Alcatraz,” are alleging harsh conditions, including power outages, lack of water, limited food, poor sanitation, and mosquito infestations.

Detainees say they can’t shower or access attorneys, and complain of spoiled food and freezing tents.

The facility is state-run, not ICE-operated, NBC News has reported.

Advocates and local officials are demanding oversight, with Miami-Dade’s mayor asking the state for access and reports on conditions amid calls to shut the center down.
