Trump says EU has been ‘very nice to us’ in trade talks and decision on tariffs is close

Talks between the European Union and the U.S. on a new trade deal remain unresolved after missing a July 9 target date originally tied to a pause on President Trump’s threatened “reciprocal” tariffs.

While no deal was reached by the deadline, Trump suggested an agreement could still be finalized within days, noting improved negotiations with the EU.

U.S. officials said Europe has made meaningful offers to open its markets to American products, while the EU is reportedly willing to accept a 10% baseline tariff, well below Trump’s earlier threats of 50%, CNBC has reported.

EU leaders remain cautious, pledging to defend European interests while preparing for all outcomes.
