A 61-year-old man is in critical condition after being pulled into an active MRI machine while wearing a metal chain at a medical center in Westbury, New York.

Authorities say he entered the MRI room during a scan, and the powerful magnetic field drew him in, causing a serious medical episode.

It’s unclear why he was in the room or if he was a patient.

The incident is under investigation, NBC 4 New York has reported.

MRI machines pose severe risks when metal objects are nearby, as the magnetic field is always active.
