A new $250 “visa integrity fee” will apply to many travelers entering the U.S. on nonimmigrant visas, such as student and temporary work visas, starting in the federal fiscal year from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025.
The fee, part of a law signed by President Trump on July 4, will adjust for inflation in future years.
Visa holders who follow their visa rules may be eligible for reimbursement, though the process for payment and refund is unclear, CBS News has reported.
The Department of Homeland Security says the fee requires coordination before implementation, and it is uncertain if the fee will be collected retroactively.
