At least 85 Palestinians were killed in Gaza on Sunday, marking the deadliest day for aid-seekers since the war began over 21 months ago, according to the territory’s Health Ministry.
Most deaths occurred in northern Gaza as crowds tried to reach food aid entering through the Zikim crossing.
Witnesses and a U.N. official said Israeli forces opened fire on civilians; Israel acknowledged firing but claimed the crowd posed a threat and disputed the death toll.
Over 150 people were injured, the Associated Press has reported.
Meanwhile, Israel issued new evacuation orders in central Gaza, raising alarm among aid groups operating there.
