Kansas sheriff’s deputy shot and killed responding to domestic violence call

Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Deputy Elijah Ming, 34, was shot and killed Saturday while responding to a domestic violence call in Kansas City, Kansas.

Ming was assisting a woman who had requested police help while moving out of a home where a man had previously threatened her.

As Ming approached the house with a Kansas City Police officer, the suspect, 38-year-old Shawn Harris, opened fire, fatally striking Ming.

Harris later exchanged gunfire with responding officers before barricading himself and eventually surrendering.

He was hospitalized in stable condition, ABC News has reported.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is leading the case.
