At a UN conference in New York co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia, the European Union, Arab League, and countries including the UK and Canada reaffirmed support for a two-state solution to end the war in Gaza.
The event produced the “New York Declaration,” a phased plan urging global recognition of Palestine, Hamas’ disarmament, and Palestinian Authority governance with international oversight.
The declaration condemned both Hamas’ October 7 attack and Israel’s military offensive, which has killed over 60,000 Palestinians.
France and the UK signaled intent to recognize Palestine by September if Israel does not agree to a ceasefire, Euro News has reported.
The U.S. and Israel boycotted the meeting.
