Former President Donald Trump has reinstated the Presidential Fitness Test, a program originally launched in 1966 to encourage physical activity among schoolchildren.
The test had been replaced in 2012 under the Obama administration with a focus on individual health.
Trump also reestablished the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, now led by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., which will set new criteria for a Presidential Fitness Award.
The move aligns with Trump’s emphasis on athletics as the U.S. prepares to host major global sporting events, the Associated Press has reported.
The decision received mixed reactions, with experts stressing that fitness testing alone won’t improve children’s health.
