The Florida Department of Health is warning against drinking raw, unpasteurized milk after 21 people, including six young children, became ill with E. coli and campylobacter linked to milk from the same farm.
Seven were hospitalized, and two developed serious complications.
Though raw milk is illegal for human consumption in Florida, it can be sold as pet food.
Health officials stress that raw milk can carry dangerous bacteria and urge caution, noting that pasteurization eliminates these risks, CBS News has reported.
Despite claims of health benefits by advocates, the CDC maintains pasteurized milk is safer and equally nutritious.
