Man accused of faking his death to evade charges found guilty of rape in Utah

Nicholas Alahverdian, a Rhode Island fugitive who once faked his death to avoid U.S. rape charges, has been convicted in Utah of first-degree rape for assaulting his then-girlfriend in 2008.

Prosecutors say he trapped and raped the woman after becoming abusive during their relationship.

The 38-year-old faces five years to life in prison when sentenced on Oct. 20 and still awaits trial in a separate 2008 rape case involving another woman, USA Today has reported.
