Police escort Texas Democrats to prevent new redistricting walkout

Texas Democrats who ended a walkout to block congressional redistricting faced constant surveillance by law enforcement, as Republicans required them to sign “permission slips” agreeing to be monitored while off the House floor.

Some Democrats, including Rep. Nicole Collier, refused and stayed in the chamber, criticizing the measures as performative and discriminatory.

The return of most Democrats allows Republicans to advance redistricting plans, the Associated Press has reported.
