Utah mourns 2 Tremonton officers killed in the line of duty

Two Tremonton-Garland police officers, Sgt. Lee Sorensen, 56, and Officer Eric Estrada, 31, were killed Sunday night when a gunman opened fire during a domestic violence call in Tremonton, Utah.

A Box Elder County deputy and his K-9 were also injured but are expected to recover.

The suspect, 32-year-old Ryan Michael Bate, allegedly assaulted his wife before shooting at responding officers with a rifle.

On Monday, processions honored the fallen officers as Gov. Spencer Cox ordered flags lowered statewide, KSL.com has reported.

Authorities praised Sorensen and Estrada as heroes who dedicated their lives to serving their community.
