French streamer dies live online after months of apparent mistreatment

French authorities are investigating the death of 46-year-old livestreamer Raphael Graven, known as Jean Pormanove, who regularly appeared on Kick broadcasts showing him being assaulted and humiliated.

He died during a live stream in Contes, near Nice, prompting prosecutors to order an autopsy and open a criminal inquiry.

Junior minister Clara Chappaz condemned the violence as “absolutely horrific” and said Kick must answer for its role in hosting illegal content.

The platform has banned the co-streamers involved and pledged to cooperate with investigators.

Videos showed Pormanove being beaten, strangled, and doused with substances, though lawyers for one co-streamer claim the abuse was staged, The Guardian has reported.

Authorities are examining whether the violence was real and whether Pormanove participated voluntarily.
