Six severed heads were discovered on a road in Tlaxcala, central Mexico, in an area normally considered peaceful and far from cartel hotspots.
A blanket left at the scene carried a warning to rival gangs, allegedly signed by “La Barredora,” a little-known group, though its involvement remains unclear.
Authorities confirmed the victims were men and have launched an investigation, while federal officials have yet to comment.
The region, more commonly linked to fuel smuggling and trafficking than extreme cartel violence, records relatively low homicide rates compared to other Mexican states, the Mirror has reported.
The killings come amid a nationwide crackdown on fentanyl and follow other recent mass killings linked to cartel violence across Mexico.
