Donald Trump suggested Sunday that former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie could face renewed scrutiny over the 2013 “Bridgegate” scandal, accusing him of lying to avoid prison and deflecting blame onto aides.
The comments came after Christie, now a Trump critic and former GOP rival, told ABC’s This Week that Trump rejects limits on presidential power.
Christie was never charged in Bridgegate, and convictions of his allies were overturned by the Supreme Court in 2020, Axios has reported.
Trump’s remarks highlight escalating tensions with Christie, who also questioned the credibility of Ghislaine Maxwell’s past statements about Trump during the interview.
