President Donald Trump said Monday the Justice Department will sue California over Gov. Gavin Newsom’s push to redraw a Democratic-leaning congressional map, calling it unfair.
The move mirrors Republican efforts in Texas, where new GOP-drawn districts are expected to give the party five more House seats in 2026.
Newsom, who signed bills to advance California’s map as a counter to Texas, responded to Trump’s threat with “BRING IT,” CNBC News has reported.
The clash underscores both parties’ aggressive mid-decade redistricting battles ahead of the next elections.
