A 12-year-old autistic boy, Bryan Vasquez, likely died from an alligator attack after escaping his New Orleans home on Aug. 14.

His body was found in a canal nearly two weeks later.

The Orleans Parish Coroner determined his cause of death as drowning with blunt trauma consistent with an alligator attack.

The case is now an active homicide investigation, though no suspects have been identified, CBS News has reported.

Bryan’s disappearance prompted a large search, and authorities are reviewing all circumstances, while local officials plan to remove nuisance alligators from the area.
