54 shot, 7 killed in Chicago over Labor Day weekend as city rejects Trump’s help

Over Labor Day weekend, at least 54 people were shot in Chicago, resulting in seven deaths, amid a surge in gun violence.

Most incidents remain unsolved, with few arrests.

The violence comes as Mayor Brandon Johnson issued an executive order barring local police from cooperating with federal agents or the National Guard, rejecting President Trump’s proposals to deploy them to curb crime, Fox News has reported.

Chicago has recorded 272 homicides, including 225 fatal shootings, so far this year, continuing a long-standing struggle with gun violence.
