Republican Rep. gets into physical altercation with protester

GOP Rep. Tim Burchett (Tenn.) got into a physical altercation Thursday with a protester outside the Longworth House Office Building in Washington.

The demonstrator, criticizing U.S. support for Israel and the war in Gaza, bumped Burchett, who responded by pushing the person.

Burchett’s office said the confrontation occurred after the protester crossed a line by making physical contact.

Capitol Police questioned the protester but offered no further comment, The Hill has reported.

The incident comes amid increased protests in D.C. over Israeli airstrikes and U.S. military aid, which some lawmakers, like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, have publicly criticized.
