The Missouri House voted 90-65 to approve a new congressional map that would likely eliminate a Democratic-controlled US House seat.
The proposed map aims to give Republicans control of seven out of eight House seats in the state, with the Missouri Senate expected to vote on it by the end of the week.
Missouri joins several other Republican-led states, including Ohio, Florida, Indiana, and South Carolina, in redrawing districts to favor GOP candidates ahead of next year’s midterm elections.
Democratic Representative Emanuel Cleaver, whose Kansas City-area district is targeted, condemned the move as “one of the ugliest moments” in his lifetime and vowed to challenge the map in court, CNN has reported.
The outcome of the redistricting could influence control of the House, potentially affecting Trump’s legislative agenda and political prospects in his remaining term.
