On Tuesday morning, more than 60 shipping containers fell from the cargo ship Mississippi into the water at the Port of Long Beach.
The incident occurred just before 9 a.m. at Pier G while the vessel was being unloaded.
Initial investigations suggest that the containers began to topple after crews started releasing the securing straps, triggering a domino effect.
Goods from major retailers such as Costco, Target, and Walmart were among the lost cargo, ABC News 7 has reported.
Port officials are investigating the cause, including a potential ballast imbalance, and have suspended operations at Pier G until the situation is stabilized.
