Charlie Kirk assassination sparks manhunt as shooting suspect remains at large

he FBI and Utah Department of Public Safety will hold a press conference at 7 a.m. local time (9 a.m. ET) Thursday to provide updates on the manhunt for the suspect in the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason and the FBI Special Agent in Charge will attend the press conference to discuss the ongoing investigation.

Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot with a single bullet around 12:20 p.m. local time Wednesday while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem.

Security camera footage from the campus shows a suspect dressed in all dark clothing, but authorities have noted the footage quality limits further description.

Two individuals detained for questioning Wednesday evening were released after authorities confirmed they had no connection to the shooting.

The Utah Department of Public Safety and FBI are co-leading the investigation, working with the Utah County Attorney’s office, Utah County Sheriff’s office, and local police, Fox News has reported.

Multiple active crime scenes are being processed, identified based on the locations where the victim was shot and where the suspect and victim traveled.

Kirk was rushed to Timpanogos Regional Hospital after the shooting, where he was pronounced dead.
